Adult Sunday Classes
|
| One of the most convenient and effective ways of growing in your
understanding of the spiritual life is to make a habit of attending
one or more of the many classes that are offered on Sunday mornings
or at times during the midweek. There are more than 20 teachers at
Saratoga Federated Church who have committed themselves to teaching.
In addition, we occasionally invite guest speakers to offer special
classes throughout the year. |
| Topics range from studies of specific books of the Old or New
Testaments to relevant issues of concern such as "How to
Parent Teens," or "Building a Better
Marriage," or "Creating Peace through Effective
Conflict Resolution." The goal is to offer our congregation
a healthy choice of learning opportunities that meet the needs and
interest of as many people as possible, while assuring a consistent
path to greater spiritual understanding. |
| There are classes for people who have never been to church before
or who are unfamiliar with the Bible or the Christian faith, as well
as learning opportunities for those who have studied the scriptures
for decades. |
| The complete listing of classes is available in the class catalog.
If you would like to receive an email notice of when a class will be
starting, please sign up online. |

Genesis: Noah and the Flood
|
Beginning October 12 at 9:00 am in the Library
|
| Charles Marsh continues his study
on Genesis. This class, covering chapters 4 – 11, examines
the story of Noah and the flood. If you attended this class
last year, which looked at the stories of Creation, Adam and
Eve, and the Fall, you know the Old Testament stories
foreshadow the coming of Christ. In fact, the early chapters
of Genesis are rich in detail about early times that make
little sense unless we know about Jesus Christ. The Old
Testament tells us what’s happening but the New Testament
tells us what’s going on. Many of the events in the Old
Testament point to God’s plan of salvation for us. Come join
this exciting, in-depth study of Genesis and deepen your
understanding of Jesus. |

Five week study begins Sunday January 18 9 am in Douglass
Hall
|
| What is God like? What does the
kingdom of God teach us about the characteristics of the King?
The book of Psalms uses poetry and metaphorical language to
give us insight into God’s character and His great love for
us. This class will explore the psalms to help us answer those
questions and give us examples of worship to apply in our own
life. We will start with Psalm 19. C.S. Lewis described this
psalm of praise as one of the most perfect psalms ever
written. Please bring your favorite Bible translation so we
can share the differences in the translations to enrich our
understanding and appreciation of what the author intended. |

Sundays: January 18 through March 1 10:30 am in Douglass
Hall
|
| Our earliest relationships greatly
influence the manner in which we relate to others throughout
our lives. The attachment to our primary caregivers (our
parents) in our first three years was meant to mirror God’s
unconditional love toward us. When we are hurt by less than
ideal earthly relationships, we can lose faith in the
possibility of emotional and spiritual well-being. Because God
created us to be in relationship – with each other and with
him – we can find peace and hope in his overwhelming love
and goodness. Through an integrated approach involving
lecture, video clips, exercises and music, participants in
Created to Belong will learn how elements of theology,
psychology, neurobiology, and scripture can help create
healthier and more satisfying relationships. |

Friday, January 23 7:00 to 9:30 pm in Room 105.
|
| Here’s a great opportunity to
relax, to be refreshed and to make Spirit-led (not just
intellectual) choices of images, words, colors, textures and
placement. We will be creating both card-sized and larger
collages. It’s a playful, open-hearted and powerful way to
gain insight into who God made you to be and into your life
from God’s perspective. |
| Collage can be meaningful for
everyone. No art experience is necessary. There are no rules
for making a collage. In fact, any rules you make up, you get
to break. You cannot fail; there is no ‘wrong way’ to do
collage. It’s truly play, and you will find both the process
and the finished collage to be meaningful. |
| Supplies, magazines and paper will
be available. Please bring scissors, a paper trimmer, tape
runners and magazines made from heavier, good quality paper,
if you have them. |
