Saratoga Federated Foundation
|
| It is possible to donate stock, mutual funds or stock options.
This page provides additional information and details on this type
of donation. |
Donations Of Stock
|
| A gift of publicly traded stocks can be made by transferring them
from your brokerage account directly to a brokerage account owned by
Saratoga Federated Church. You can download and print the Instructions
for Donation of Stock form, then complete it and send it to your
broker. The form, with your description of the securities, provides
all the information your broker needs to make the transfer and
indicates the gift is for the benefit of the Foundation. Also,
please fax or send a copy of the form to SFC's Accounting Manager so
they will know the gift has been made and that it is to be allocated
to the Foundation. The date of the gift will be the day it is posted
to the Church's brokerage account, so if year-end timing is
important, allow at least a business day for your broker to process
your request and three business days for the stock transfer
settlement period. |
Donations Of Mutual Funds
|
| Even for non-proprietary mutual funds, that can be bought and sold
through on-line brokerage firms, the transfer of mutual funds from
one ownership name to another requires the assistance and approval
of the mutual fund company that sponsors the specific fund you want
to transfer. Saratoga Federated must open an account with the mutual
fund sponsor to receive the mutual funds. This takes about two weeks
because SFC is legally organized as a corporation and must submit
written documentation such as a signed Board Resolution to open any
type of banking, brokerage, or mutual fund account. After SFC's
account is open, you can make the transfer request as described in
the preceding paragraph but it may take up to two more weeks to be
completed instead of the three or four days for a stock transfer. To
commence the process, contact SFC's Accounting Manager, and provide
the name of the mutual fund sponsor and the name of the specific
fund to be transferred so she can proceed to open an account with
the sponsor. |
Donations Of Stock Options
|
| You may have stock options that have appreciated well above the
option grant price. If so, and if you are looking for an appreciated
asset to donate, this might be a great way to meet your contribution
goals. There are two types of stock options, ISO and Non-Qualified,
each which has a different tax treatment. |
| The complexity of this type of a donation is just enough that we
would like to work with each person individually to see how it
should be done as well as to help them understand the complete
picture as far as tax savings. So if you have stock options that you
would like to donate as part of your legacy giving, please contact
one of the Foundation board members and we will work with you to
complete the process. |
