Small Groups

A Christian Small Group is an intentional face-to-face gathering of 3-12 people who meet on a regular time schedule with the common purpose of discovering and growing in the possibilities of an abundant life in Christ.

Small Groups Are...

  • Where inquirers can discuss their questions with other seekers.
  • Where we meet others and develop friendships. (It is hard to meet and get to know others in an hour at Sunday services.)
  • Where we study the Bible together, try to discern God's message, and share with each other what the verses mean to us.
  • Where we develop friends and find comfort in our daily walk. As followers of Christ, we are to be with others. It is not to be a solitary walk.

What is the Purpose of Small Groups?

When you meet with a small group of people on a regular time schedule with the purpose of discovering and growing spiritually in the possibilities of an abundant life in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior, your life begins to change. You begin to actually see the freedom of your choices through Christ. Your personal ministry and mission in this life takes on new meaning. You have actually heard about this in church from our pastors and read about it in the brochure entitled, The Transformative Journey to Christ-Likeness.
This is not a "quick fix" but one that happens through having a place to belong, to grow, and to serve. You may ask, "Why should I join a small group?"
Groups exist to:

Get Involved

There are small groups for a wide variety of interests: singles, couples, families, men, women, morning, evening, etc.
If you are interested in joining a small group, pick up a Small Groups brochure from the Hospitality Center on Sunday morning and fill out the enclosed form or email Rol or Camille Chapman. Another way to connect is to fill out a yellow card in the back of the pews and drop it in the collection plate.
Small groups mutually decide upon an agreement with each other. (We call it their covenant.) They decide time and frequency of meetings, what their purpose will be, and how the meetings will be organized.
We stress that a Small Group spend time building relationships and that there be time for Bible study. In time they become supportive and caring of one another.
Finally, one mandatory rule – "What is said here stays here."

Lenten Soup Supper

February 12, 6.00 pm in Douglass Hall — For centuries, the season of Lent has prepared the heart of the believer for Easter. During Lent, we remember the suffering of Jesus that led to his death on our behalf. It is an opportunity to slow down and reflect on what the death of Jesus means to us, so that we can celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter. Please join us as begin the Lent season with a soup supper and reflective service on Friday, February 12. There is a small group study available for any group who would like to focus on Lent. For more information, contact Sally Bryant by email or at (408)867-1000 x 233
